New program assists homeless people, their pets

We all get attached to our pets, and homeless people are no different. Sometimes the loss of a place to live results in the pet ending up in an animal shelter, but in some cases, this may not be in the best interest of the pet or the person.

Nevada Humane Society and the city of Reno recently partnered to launch a program to assist homeless people with getting care for their pets. Through the City of Reno Resource Center, Housing Resource Specialist and Homeless Coordinator Krista Lee refers homeless people in need of pet care to the Nevada Humane Society so that they can receive free food, spay/neuter surgeries and vaccinations for their pets.
